12 AUGUST - 4 SEPTEMBER
OPENING 6-8PM THURSDAY 11 AUGUST
Gallery 1 UP SHE GOES Louise Paramor
A large scale video projection, featuring a girl leaning over a fancy sports car, is used
to explore the way men gaze at images and dream their dreams of power, wealth and sexual
fulfilment. The work for this exhibition came about as a result of a residency at Stichting
Duende Aktiviteiten, Rotterdam earlier this year.
Gallery 2 UNTITLED Chris Bell
A psychologically strange and inspiring space is created with black glass and steel crystalline
prisms attached, like spores or barnacles to the windows, doorframes and cornices of the gallery.
Primarily inspired by Regency and Victorian lamp housings and mullioned glass houses these
sculptures attempt to fuse the notion of biology, history, geology and architecture.
Gallery 3 THE LIVING ROOM Kristina Tsoulis-Reay
This installation of painting, drawing, patchwork and hand-sewn human figures explores the aesthetics
of memory by drawing on notions of the 'ancestor'. Each piece engages with themes of childhood and
family history, suggesting the domestic living space as a vestige of personal spirituality in its
engagement with the living and the dead.
Gallery 4 NO PLACE LIKE HOME Richard Ellard
The construction of personal and collective identities is explored through symbols of celebrity and
consumerism. Digital prints and transfers in the form of vinyl printed banners and stippled surfaced
floor graphics form part of this investigation into the psychiatric condition dubbed 'Celebrity Worship
Syndrome', that manifests most often during adolescence and times of crisis.
Gallery 5 DONKEY Olivia Dowling
This performance/installation compares the marginalisation of artists' lives to that of the homeless.
Young participating artists, dressed in a donkey suit made from paint and canvas, endure uncomfortable
poses for extended periods of time, illustrating the frustrations, torments and competitive lifestyles
of contemporary artists.

All Galleries NATURAL SELECTION
This exhibition investigates the material use of objects, ranging from dried plant and sea matter
to readily available international commodity items, in the consideration of issues including
globalisation, identity, and cultural specificity. This exhibition incorporates works that vary
considerably in materiality, as each artist draws from their individual social histories and directly
engages with ideas that are both localised and global in context.
Artists: Mella Jaarsma (Indonesia), Sharmila Samant (India), Linde Ivimey (Australia),
Niki Hastings-McFall (New Zealand), Caroline Ho-Bich-Tuyen Dang (Australia).
Curated by Christine Clark and Lisa Byrne

OPENING 6-8PM THURSDAY 20 OCTOBER
Gallery 1 FLESHLINGS Mary Scott
A suite of paintings exploring identity within domestic and public space, as well as prevailing societal
attitudes toward the female body as a distinctive vehicle for transgressing collective protocols.
Gallery 2 UNTITLED Leah Davidson
A photographic series of lifelike dolls that represent people on the fringes of society. The images are
concerned with the phenomenon of 'looking' and draw on the viewers' sense of admiration, compassion and
relatedness when viewing these images of people 'on the fringe'.
Gallery 3 DANGEROUS LIAISONS Lily Hibberd
Characters from contemporary films depicting stories of the class struggle, are inserted into monochromatic
paintings of old masters that have similar stories or conceptual links. An installation that questions the
concept of a classless society.
Gallery 4 IN YOUR DREAMS Cheryl Adam
Popular culture, 'old bags', and other discarded materials are used in this video installation to challenge
the assumption that age limits creativity and is a barrier to success.
Gallery 5 AT THE BOTTOM OF EACH WORD Nicholas Jones
Through the acts of cutting, folding, tearing and stacking, this installation looks at the future of the book
as a cultural icon. Removed from their initial raison d'etre, books evoke a nostalgic feeling where meaning
slips from their pages.
