Contemporary Indigenous Art Practice

For the past ten years Linden has been presenting, with the assistance of the City of Port Phillip, an annual exhibition aimed at showcasing the best of contemporary Indigenous Australian art and promoting it to as broad an audience as possible.

These exhibitions and associated programs have been professionally presented, promoted to a broad Indigenous and non-Indigenous audience and have often led to major acquisitions, commissions, overseas residencies or other significant opportunities for the artists involved.

Linden is pleased to announce that it has received funding from the Sidney Myer Fund to develop and expand its Contemporary Indigenous Art Program. The program will involve mentoring a young Indigenous Curator and having the curator work on an exhibition of new work by contemporary Indigenous artists in 2008. The program aims to pilot an assistant curator position within Linden that gives young Indigenous curators an opportunity to work with an experienced curator to deliver an annual contemporary Indigenous art exhibition.
