MEDIA RELEASE
"SEEING SOME LOVELY ART WISH YOU WERE HERE"
Linden St Kilda Centre for Contemporary Arts is calling for entries for their
2002 Postcard Show which is now in its eleventh year.
Amy Barrett-Lennard, the Director of Linden, says that the fund raising
exhibition "is the biggest show we organise for the year, in 2001 we
exhibited 1,111 works of art."
The Postcard Show is a landmark event during the St Kilda Festival and
attracts thousands of visitors, some hoping to purchase that work of art
which will prove an investment in the years to come. Past Linden Postcard
Show artists have included Patricia Piccinini, Geoffrey Ricardo, Rick Amor,
Deborah Walker, Tom Alberts, Peter Churcher and Glen Walls who recently won
the inaugural Roche Contemporary Art Award.
Amy Barrett-Lennard is enthusiastic about this years prize pool "the
biggest ever with a total of over $5,000 including a 1st prize of $2,000 -
Hocking Stuart Award, 2nd prize of $1,000 - Dogs Bar Award and 3rd prize of
$750 worth of art materials from Arts Spectrum Finest Artists Colours."
The title of the show is derived from the fact that six of the works exhibited
are selected to be reproduced as Linden postcards. Artists whose work is selected
in this way each receive $250.
Judges for the 2002 Postcard Show will be Jon Cattapan, one of Australia's most
successful artists and a local St Kilda resident, Ashley Crawford arts writer
for The Age and Virginia Trioli, presenter, Drive 774 3LO.
