Cross Currents2 July - 7 August 2005 Denise ROBINSON Author Martin Flanagan once wrote "all my conscious life I've been looking for those who were here before me". I yearned for an understanding of place. Living by the ocean I have found that place. The spiral symbolises birth & death, continuity, cycles of life and nature, fertility - it represents the navel as a centre of Power and Life. Metaphysically it refers to the wanderings of the soul in manifestation and its ultimate return to the centre. Sister Macrina Wiederkehr wrote "We live in a world of theophanies. Holiness comes wrapped in the ordinary. There are burning bushes all around you. Every tree is full of angels. Hidden beauty is waiting in every crumb. Life wants to lead you from crumbs to angels, but this can only happen if you are willing to unwrap the ordinary by staying with it long enough to harvest its treasure". I see the wonder of life in the 'ordinary' gathered daily during my walks by the ocean. In simplicity I find magic and beauty. Perhaps I grow closer to finding a connection to those that were here before me - the centre of my own spiral. Denise Ava Robinson works and lives on the north coast of Tasmania. Endless Beginnings is in honour of Avon Hedley Robinson.
