Exhibitions 21 October - 13 November 2005

Five new exhibitions open at Linden 6pm Thursday 20 October 2005

Fleshings in gallery 1 by Mary Scott is a suite of oil paintings that explore intimacy and domestic space. The images depict incidental moments, dislodged from concrete reality and deposited in the amorphous and intangible world of the psyche.

Leah Davidson's New Photographs in gallery 2 examines the fundamental humanity that connects all of us. These large scale photographs, of life-like dolls and props made by the artist, are concerned with the phenomena of looking and draw on the viewers' sense of admiration, compassion and relatedness when viewing images of people 'on the fringe'.

Seven small paintings, dialogues from contemporary films, a wing-backed chair, a spotlight and an empty fireplace set the scene for Lily Hibberd's installation Dangerous Liaisons in Gallery 3. This exhibition considers film as a framework within which to critique society while, at the same time, upholding class distinctions.

In Your Dreams is a 'Pop Pawn post-menopaws old cat's fantasy' by Cheryl Adam. This installation in Gallery 4, takes over the space of youth, playing them at their own game, "hanging it all out in order to challenge the rights of old girls to be seen. Sexy scenes and erotic language come with a guarantee not to cause an erection."

Through the acts of cutting, folding, tearing and stacking At the Bottom of Each Word, by Nicholas Jones in Gallery 5, looks at the future of the book as a cultural icon. Removed from their initial raison d'etre, books evoke a nostalgic feeling where meaning slips from their pages.

All exhibitions continue until Sunday 13 November 2005
