Gossip Pop
Gossip Pop is both label and outcome for this live
collaborative music performance and video installation
enterprise. A feminist mandate transforms tabloid narratives of
celebrity (usually aimed at female audiences) into contemporary
art versions of pop songs. The tabloid press
chooses the subject matter for us
we are simply making
songs from what theyre writing about.
Since its inception in 2002, Gossip Pop has produced over 30
songs referencing various pop music genres each of
which deals with narratives based on issues of sex, drugs or body
image. Thinly masquerading as commercial enterprise, delivering
mass-produced entertainment (clues to the DIY construction of the
Gossip Pop product are always evident) Gossip Pop aims to
motivate the viewer to think about the politics of
societies (private) obsessions and their implications for
our culture.
