Paradise 2006

The anatomy of paradise is the anatomy of painting. This seems absurdly serious but has something to do with these five paintings grouped here. Making difficult distinctions between what is figurative or abstract, representational or conceptual in painting these days is nearly impossible. The words slip between one another and their meanings are now used no more than descriptively. Paintings though, still involve a certain complicity that stands them aside from most other types of image-making-and they are not 'hard' and 'in the world' like other objects. Paradise is a painterly idea.
