Michael Vale was the first arts co-ordinator of Linden when it became an arts space 21 years ago. He teaches in the painting departments at Monash and RMIT and has been included in many exhibitions at Linden. His project, Le Chien Qui Fume (The Smoking Dog) critiques art history, proposing the view that the narratives that surround art are unavoidable. In The Servants of the Moon the dog explores the idea that all of us are guilty of projecting our personal fantasies onto the blank and accepting "screen" that the moon provides.
