INNOVATORS 4 EXHIBITIONS
16 November - 16 December 2007
Gallery 1 PLAY Narinda Cook
An installation that investigates the ongoing importance of play in our lives. The intention is to evoke emotions
and memories associated with childhood dreams, fantasies and pure imagination by suggestion rather than instruction.
Colourful, bulbous, featureless sculptural forms, with the qualities of a children's storybook character, encourage
viewers to draw on their own imagination and experience.

Gallery 3 TEXTile Mandy Gunn
Three lengths of woven fabric in paper, wool and polyester combine with two of the most socially powerful mediums of all
time - text and textiles in this exhibition. The text used is arguably the most influential of the Western world:
the Old and New Testaments of the Bible that have been cut into strips and woven in the traditional way on a hand
loom. Ancient and modern are combined in these three pieces that are reminiscent of the Dead Sea Scrolls and refer
to the invention and influence of text on humanity.

Gallery 4 REPETITION 2 Nicole Byrne
This exhibition is inspired by the way sea sponges and corals create intricate, interlocking repetitive patterns that
multiply to form structures that are seemingly delicate but amazingly strong. Large honeycomb structures, made from
masking tape are randomly placed within the gallery. The white masking tape signifies the bleaching caused by pollution
and global warming that will eventually lead to the extinction of corals and the eventual destruction of all marine
life.
