Linden Postcard Show 20082 February - 8 March 2008 The Linden Postcard show is an open entry award exhibition featuring small format contemporary work. The exhibition has become a prominent event in the Australian cultural calendar and attracts thousands of visitors. The Postcard Show derives its name from the tradition of selecting 6 works to be reproduced and sold as Linden Postcards. Our collection of 115 cards is currently on sale in the gallery. The sun was shining yet again for the 17th opening of the Linden Postcard Show on Saturday 2 February as hundreds of people lined up to see the 2,069 works inside the gallery. Mr Martin Foley MP began the afternoon by announcing our 6 Postcard Winners, these are the works selected by the judges to be reproduced into Linden Postcards (which is how the show gets its name). 1st Prize Bendigo Bank Award worth $5,000 went to a photograph entitled, Manchester Lane by Tess Milne. The photo is part of a series, entitled Detour. Manchester Lane depicts a bike leaning up against an inner city wall - what's unusual is the fact that the entire scene is constructed out of cardboard and paper. Milne, a final year student of Interior Design at RMIT, recreates Melbourne lane ways and cafes by constructing tiny models which she then photographs. On hearing her name announced as the 1st prize winner, Milne says she was shocked and amazed. "I've entered the Postcard Show before and it is always a great opportunity to exhibit your work in such a lovely venue - but with so much work on the walls you never imagine you are going to win". Milne will use part of the prize money to purchase video equipment for her art practice. Maxime Banks took out the Dogs Bar 2nd Prize of $2,000 for her piece, I Believe In Love and Scott Miles, won the 3rd prize Art Spectrum Finest Artists Colours Award $1,000 worth of art materials with Hoodhead No.5. The Bendigo Bank People's Choice Award will be announced at the end of the exhibition on 9 March 2008. So come in to Linden and vote for you favourite artwork and you, and the most popular artist, could be $1,000 richer thanks to Bendigo Bank. Please find a full list of the winner's details overleaf.
