Do you know why?
2003
acrylic and pen on board

How much do people really know? Does it really matter if you have an understanding about Indigenous Australian history? Is it really going to change anything? I feel that there is a common ignorance amongst the wider community when it comes to addressing Indigenous social issues. It’s a lack of understanding and knowledge that is based on the guilt of rectifying the past for injustices that where bestowed on our people. Why do you get more money then me? You get your money for free? There isn’t any racism any more? You get special privileges because you’re black? These are some of the questions and statements that I have heard and it angers me to hear the ignorance within these questions towards our own Indigenous Australian history. If the history behind these questions were understood then the questions wouldn’t be asked. This work is about questioning the wider community about how much people really know about the social history of Indigenous Australians.
