Dennis FISHER ("Den the Fish")
Grew up: in Cherbourg Aboriginal Mission in South East Queensland
Lives: Port Melbourne, Victoria

I grew up on a mission in South East Queensland and have lived in Melbourne for 12 years. I spend many hours working with individuals, schools, tertiary institutions, organizations and community groups sharing my knowledge and understanding about reconciliation.

Through poetry, story and sharing of my life experiences I share what reconciliation means for me and the challenges it presents for us all.

I do this work not for me, not for you, but for us.

Dennis Fisher

MY LIFE

My life is like driving a car

I am going to go over some bumpy and rough roads
Where I have to slow down because I might damage my car.

I am going to drive around a sharp bend or corner
Where I really have to slow down because I might roll the car

I am going to come to some traffic lights and stop signs
Where I have to be patient

I am going to drive down a dead end
But I don't want to go back the way I just came

Because there's a pub there where I used to drink
And there are friends drinking in the park across from there
And they might see me

But I know that I have to do, what I have to do

I might get a flat tyre
But I don't want to get out of the car
Because it's raining and it's cold outside

But I know I have to, if I want to get to where I am going

Where are YOU going ?
