<product_content><![CDATA[We Dance with Ghosts pays homage to the many musical recitals and parties hosted by the Michaelis Family, the original inhabitants of the house we now call Linden New Art. Musicians from the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) will perform throughout the evening, inspired by Vittoria Di Stefano’s exhibition Pears on a Willow. Di Stefano’s site-specific sculptural exhibition Pears on a Willow explores the poetics of domestic spaces and their embedded histories. The work has been informed by Di Stefano’s research of the Linden site itself, a family home originally built for Jewish immigrant Moritz Michaelis and his family in the nineteenth century, and its use as a venue for musical recitals, gatherings and fundraising events. Featuring percussionist [Zela Papageorgiou](https://zela.live/) and cellist Hamish Jamieson, We Dance with Ghosts seeks to draw out the history of the iconic mansion. The evening will be a unique and intimate opportunity to view our current exhibitions by Juncture Prize winners Vittoria Di Stefano and Shivanjani Lal, and to gather with friends in the spirit of past convivial musical soirees hosted at Linden in the nineteenth and early twentieth century. We encourage you to choose an outfit that makes you feel fabulous and fits the festive mood of the evening. <product_title><![CDATA[Linden Creates > Poetry Masterclass]]></product_title>
<product_content><![CDATA[Join Manisha Anjali in this one-day course about poetry and the archive. Configuring the poet as a historian, this workshop examines the relationship between poetry and the archive. Whether we are exploring historical documents, field recordings, photographs, letters or family heirlooms, creative archival research is an important process for the poet, often with radical and political illuminations. Poetic language and cultural memory intersect to create new historical documents, which facilitate provoking dialogue between the past and present. How can we responsibly research and work with historical documentation? How do we interrogate silences in the archive, as we consider historical power dynamics – who is in the story, who records it, and how? Bring an archival object to the workshop. This may be printed historical materials, photographs, found objects, letters, periodicals, family trees or an heirloom. We will practice ways of rendering the object into poetic form.Learning outcomes: Archival methodology: aspects of creative archival research What to consider when using archival material for poetry How to interrogate silence in the archive and silence in poetic form Methods of rendering aspects of the archive in poetic language Experimentation with poetic strategy and form Manisha Anjali is the author of Naag Mountain (Giramondo, 2024). She is the founder of Neptune, a research and documentation platform for dreams, visions and hallucinations. Manisha was a recipient of BLINDSIDE’s Regional Arts & Research Residency at Mooramong, a Writer-in-Residence at Incendium Radical Library and a Hot Desk Fellow at The Wheeler Centre. <product_title><![CDATA[Masterclass > The Long Line with Jacqui Stockdale]]></product_title>
<product_content><![CDATA[Join artist Jacqui Stockdale for a special skills-based Masterclass The Long Line, inspired by her exhibition The Long Shot currently showing at Linden New Art. Looking at the costumes and masks on display, you will learn to make line drawings of the fashion designs on a fold-out paper sculpture. Stockdale says that drawing in this way evokes the serendipitous way we experience the unfolding world around us. This Masterclass will help you engage with the work as you observe the details that are often overlooked when walking through a gallery space. It can be a meditative experience and helps you gain confidence in your drawing abilities. No drawing experience necessary.'You will spend the day in the gallery getting to know every one of my whimsical characters in my new exhibition, The Long Shot and take home a fold-out concertina sketch book of fabulous drawings"- Jacqui Stockdale The Long Shot is an exhibition of photographic portraits, collage and life size sculptural works. The artist's research and inspiration stems from clothing featured in Ned Kelly films, traditional clothing worn on the Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations and burlesque costumes. The dresses, shoes, collars and buttons are original Victorian clothing combined with tailor made pieces from vintage linen and contemporary fashion. As well as a display of masks from Mexico, Guatemala and China, the artist has created original masks using human hair, horsehair, re-purposed animal fur and human teeth. A selection of costumes are also sourced from Rose Chong Costumiers in Fitzroy and featured in the large framed photographs from the series The Boho. WHEN > Saturday 14 March 2020 TIME > 10AM to 4PM VENUE > Linden Workshop, rear 26 Acland Street, St Kilda COST > $150 This event is proudly promoted by Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival as part of the Independent Program. ### Sorry, this is a past event.]]></product_content>
