Balancing Scale Sculpture


Learn to create the perfect balancing act. By making a simple and fun balancing scale sculpture. Uniquely designed from resourceful materials found around your home. Experiment with weighing scales created with various shapes, sizes and colours, to find that ideal equilibrium.

Materials

  • Long roll (Gladwrap/foil roll)
  • Cardboard
  • Pen
  • Any paints
  • Glue tack  
  • Paint brushes
  • Scissors
  • Skewers
  • Wire

Step 1

  • Design the shapes you desire that you would like on your balancing scale. These can be different shapes and sizes. Try make a variety for your scale – Large, medium and small.
  • Draw a square, this will be the base that your centerpiece (tall roll) will sit on.

Step 2

  • Paint your shapes.
  • Cut these out and paint the other side once dried.
  • Paint the centrepiece / tall roll.

Step 3

  • Create two holes on each side of the centre piece, make sure these are evenly placed on each side.
  • Place the skewers through, cut these to the desired equal length.
  • Stick your centre piece / tall roll on to your base piece using glue tack.




Step 4

  • Using the wire, thread through the pieces/ shapes you have cut out. Combine different shapes and sizes in each thread.
  • Thread different shapes on the skewers.
  • Thread through your wired parts that have different shapes attached to them, to the larger.

  • You can experiment with the placement of all your shapes and play with these until you get your ideal balance.
