Linden New Art is a public contemporary art gallery renowned for presenting high-profile exhibitions, events and programs.

The historic Linden mansion is a Council-owned Victorian-era heritage listed building. In 2018 extensive renovations were made for it to become DDA compliant with structural improvements, improved street access and a new lift to the second level exhibition space allowing more people the opportunity to explore the gallery.

It is our top priority to provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience to all visitors and companions. We welcome feedback to ensure our continued improvement and what we are doing well. Getting Here


Accessible Public Transport

We recommend passengers requiring accessible services use the Route 96 tram to Alfred Square/The Esplanade (stop number 136).

In addition, the Route 16 is partly serviced by low-floor trams.

Bus routes 600606623 or 922 are the closest services to Linden New Art and are wheelchair accessible services.


Parking
There is no dedicated accessible car parking in the direct area. There are two accessible parking spots available in front of Theatre Works at 14 Acland Street, 100 metres west of Linden New Art. If you require meet and assist support please call or email Linden New Art and we can arrange this for you.


Once Here


Wheelchair Accessibility

The public entrance to Linden New Art is via a 25-metre ramp with a gentle incline leading to its single outward-opening glass door. Tactile ground surface indicators midway along the ramp alert the presence of handrails on both sides.

The gallery's internal doors and doorways are wheelchair friendly. Exhibitions spaces are designed with clear and unobstructed thoroughfares to allow for easy navigation by visitors of any mobility range.


Assistance Animals

We extend a warm invitation to all visitors with certified assistance animals to explore our gallery at your leisure. Water bowls are available near the reception desk in foyer. The nearest green space is Linden's front lawn.

Accessible Toilet

Linden New Art has two ambulant and one fully accessible toilet on the ground floor, located at the end of the internal corridor.


First Floor Galleries and Staff Offices

Access to the first-floor internal galleries and Linden New Art staff office spaces are via the lift and stairs located behind reception.

If you require access to the offices, please notify reception and a staff member will come down and meet you.

Projects Space and Artists’ Studios
The Projects Space and Artist Studios located at the rear of the building are not wheelchair accessible. Entry to these areas is via the original internal staircase. An alternate route through staff offices features seven steps. Requests can be made at reception for staff to provide assistance. 


The Linden Workshop Space
The Workshop Space is accessible via the original building with the assistance of staff. Please speak to reception to gain entry to this area.

Quiet Space
Sometimes the gallery can be busy, loud, or generally overwhelming. We can provide a quiet space for individuals or groups to retreat to avoid or recover from sensory overload. If you require the option of quiet space for a group please contact us ahead of time, preferably with a 2-week notice.



What we can do


Tactile Tours for groups

Linden’s exhibitions change multiple times a year and we present a variety of diffrent forms and types of art. Our staff can offer free guided sensory tours for suitable exhibitions for people who are blind or have low vision. 

Tactile Tours can also benefit people with multisensory or learning disabilities and Autistic people.

Please book two-weeks in advance so we can tailor the group tour to your groups needs and interests.
 

Sighted Guides for individuals
Linden can provide free sighted guides for individuals who are blind or have low vision. These tours are limited to 45 minutes and should be booked one-week in advance.

 
Relaxed Tours for groups
Relaxed tours can benefit people with multisensory or learning disabilities, neurodivergence and Autism.

Please book two-weeks in advance so we can tailor the group tour to your groups needs and interests.

Audio Described Tours
Linden New Art can provide in person tours for individuals and groups. 
In person Audio Described tours can be offered upon request and bookings should be made two weeks in advance.

For those who can’t make it to the gallery

For every major show we produce a 360-degree virtual tour to ensure exhibitions can still be accessed and enjoyed by all. Head over to the exhibitions page to view the current or previous shows.
