Join Curator Juliette Hanson for a lively conversation with leading mid-career Melbourne based artist Troy Emery to explore the ideas behind his work and practice.
Emery creates exquisite creatures with elusive identities,
paying tribute to the animals that humans have objectified in various ways throughout time. Sonder encourages us to recognise that
we all have complex inner lives, hidden behind various facades. Emery’s creatures are expressionless, and we are left to wonder what might
be happening in their internal worlds.
Emery plays with ideas of what people expect of ‘traditional’ fine art by using decorative materials more usually associated with craft and
fashion. The results are both comforting and sometimes disconcerting!
There will be opportunities for you to ask questions and get involved.
