> RUGBY Jerseys

Create a special rugby jersey inspired by your family and friends. This fun activity for kids draws on the themes of family and connection present in Yuriyal Eric Bridgeman’s current exhibition 'Yal'.

What is something you love about your family and friends? If you could create your own sports jersey, what would it look like? What images and colours would you use to represent your family? Using paper and pencils, we are going to create our very own paper jersey.

Materials:

  • White paper
  • Coloured paper
  • Colouring pencils or textas
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Hole puncher
  • Twine

Step 1

First, let's create the outline of our jersey.

You can either draw your own outline on a piece of A4 paper, or print out the attached template found here.

    Step 2

Next, we have to decide what we are going to draw on the jersey.

Think of something that is significant to you.

You might like to draw your favourite activity you do with your friends or a draw a picture of your family pet.

    Step 3

Draw your images on a separate piece of white paper.

You can use coloured pencils, textas or anything you have lying around the house to draw your creations.

I have drawn a pair of googles as my dad loves to swim. I’ve also included a chess piece as my sister and I always play chess together.

    Step 4

Using the scissors, carefully cut out your drawings.

Once you have all of your images ready to go, you can now start to stick them onto your jersey.

    Step 5

It’s now time to add the final touches.

Colour in the background of your jersey and draw any final images you might like to add.

I’ve added a number 3 to my jersey as it is my mum’s favourite number.

    Step 6

    This is the final jersey!

My jersey includes all my favourite things I like to do with my family and friends.

    Step 7

You might like to cut out your jersey and use it to decorate your room.

Using the hole puncher, add two holes at the top and thread the jersey onto the twine. I also added a few of my friend’s creations to make a rugby team.

    Happy making!
