Kwik-Kwik-Kwik considers Menopause a state of continual adjustment: a body in flux, in slow decline, fogging, heating,
leaking, all whilst refusing to remain contained.
Boiling pots, steam, water, sound, scent and durational performance come together as an immersive installation where maintenance is endless,
and control is never quite achieved. The installation is framed by a large drawing, inspired by the artist’s Dutch heritage and the familiar
presence of a family cuckoo clock. The Common Cuckoo is captured mutely perched, then rising or volant, and mid-squawk with its bubbling
kwik-kwik-kwik call.
Together, the installation and the cuckoo drawing form two unlikely self-portraits: one embodied in the restless labour of maintenance, the
other perched above it all, watching, flapping and cackling its way through the passage of time.
As part of the exhibition, the artist will present a durational performance in the space every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday, 11 am - 4 pm except Sunday, October 25.
Heidi Holmes holds an MFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design (Vancouver, CA) and a BFA (Honours) from the VCA
at the University of Melbourne (AU). Holmes has exhibited her work in numerous solo exhibitions and group exhibitions including YYZ
Artist Outlet (CA), Yard Space Gallery (CA), Libby Leshhold Gallery (CA), Spring 1883 (AU), Root Division (US), Margaret Lawrence
Gallery (AU), TCB Art Inc (AU), West Space (AU), Bus Projects (AU) and worked with curator Raimundas Malasakis on his project, ‘On
Campus’ (AU). Recent accomplishments include securing a scholarship to join The Power Plant's Emerging Artist Collective (CA) and a
full scholarship to attend the European Cultural Academy’s Contemporary Art Course (Venice, IT). Interviews and writing about Holmes’
practice have been published in Un Magazine (AU), The Wheeler Centre (AU), and in 2021, Holmes’ work, ‘I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar as I
