At Linden New Art, we welcome school groups of all ages and provide enriching experiences that foster creativity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of contemporary art.

Linden offers educational programs which can be tailor-made to suit your learning focus and curriculum. Each school visit is unique and developed in partnership with Linden and the teacher. School visits may be hourly, half day or full day.

Our school programs


Curator's Tour

We offer free guided tours for primary, secondary, and tertiary students. Led by our Curator, each tour is tailored to suit the unique learning objectives of your school, providing an interactive exploration of our current exhibitions. Gallery tours are available between 11am-4pm, Tuesday to Friday. Please book at least one week in advance. Our exhibitions vary in scale, from large solo shows spanning the entire gallery to multiple smaller exhibitions. For day excursions, we can also recommend nearby galleries and museums to complement your visit.

Linden History and Architecture Tour

Discover the history of Linden from the traditional owners of the land, the Boon Wurrung people, to its ownership from 1870 by Jewish family, the Michaelis, to its life as a public art gallery from 1986. This tour can be offered alongside Curator's Tour.

observational Drawing 

Practice observational drawing in the gallery space inspired by the current exhibitions on display. Activities can be developed in collaboration with schools and groups to learn, refine or practice creative skills. All materials provided. This activity can be offered alongside Curator's Tour.

Writing Activities

Writing activities can be developed in collaboration with schools and groups in response to key focus areas and the current exhibitions on display. Activities may include writing exhibition reviews, artist profiles, critical analysis or research tasks. This activity can be offered alongside Curator's Tour.

Workshops

Our workshops are designed to nurture creativity, encourage play, and build social connections. We can customise workshops to align with curriculum topics of interest and provide a hands-on learning experience. Workshop fees vary based on duration, outcomes, and participant numbers. Workshops can be offered alongside Curator's Tour.

OUTREACH PROGRAMS

Our outreach programs bring Linden New Art directly to your school, making art accessible to students who may have limited opportunities to visit us in person. These sessions encourage creative and critical thinking through discussions and art-making activities inspired by Linden’s exhibitions. Outreach programs may include a small fee based on program goals and travel distance.

VCE ART MAKING AND EXHIBITING

For VCE students, we offer free sessions aligned with the curriculum, providing insight into the processes of designing exhibitions, displaying artworks, and promoting shows in a non-collection-based gallery. We can also facilitate a practical session after the tour, focusing on Linden as an exhibition space.
