Drink like an artist

If lockdown is making you want to hit the source like a YBA in the 90s …
here are some cocktail ideas to get you started. (Please drink responsibly)

SAZERAC

60ml brandy
3 dashes bitters
5-10ml sugar syrup
A few drops of absinthe
To garnish: lemon peel (curled)

Method
Ice a large tumbler and set aside (you can also use a chilled glass). Separately, stir the brandy, bitters and sugar syrup.

Tip out the ice and roll a few drops of absinthe around in the glass, and then discard (into another glass or someone’s mouth, preferably).

Strain the drink into the absinthe-laced glass and garnish with the lemon peel.

    OLD FASHIONED

    2 tsp sugar syrup
    ½ tsp Angostura bitters
60 ml bourbon or rye whiskey
    2 orange wedges
    To garnish: Maraschino cherry (optional)

    Method
Add sugar syrup, bitters and two ice cubes to a large tumbler (the Old Fashioned glass takes its name, in fact, from the cocktail) and stir to combine.

Add half the whiskey, an orange wedge and two more ice cubes and stir for 30 seconds to a minute.

Add another two ice cubes and the remaining whiskey and stir for another minute, adding more ice if necessary.

Add another piece of orange wedge, and, if you're feeling jaunty, a maraschino cherry, and serve.
