Celebrate Mother’s Day with two special artist-led talks examining the role of Australian women in contemporary culture and during early colonial times.
Join artist Dean Golja to discuss his poignant photographs that capture the experiences of St Kilda’s female street-workers. In close partnership with St Kilda Gatehouse, a not for profit organisation set up to support women experiencing poverty, sexual exploitation and hardship, this exhibition aims to raise awareness of the daily realities faced by these women.
Then, hear from Jacqui Stockdale about her exhibition The Long Shot, which brings to life the forgotten females of the Ned Kelly story, including Kelly’s mother, Ellen. In this exhibition, Stockdale challenges the dominant narratives of Australian folk history and re-examines their potency in the present.
